Have you ever looked around your home and felt overwhelmed by the clutter? Maybe you’ve wanted to tackle it but just don’t know where to start. You’re not alone. The first step to successful decluttering isn’t just about getting rid of stuff—it’s about setting clear goals and shifting your mindset.

In today’s post, we’re diving into how to get started on your decluttering journey and set yourself up for success.

Step 1: Set Your Decluttering Goals 🎯

Before you even touch a single drawer or shelf, take a moment to define what you want to achieve. Ask yourself:

✔️ Why do I want to declutter? (Less stress? A more organized home? More space for things I truly love?)

✔️ What does my ideal space look and feel like?

✔️ How will I maintain this once I’ve decluttered?

Action Step: Write down your goals and, if you’re feeling creative, make a vision board! It can be digital (Pinterest boards work great!) or physical (grab some old magazines and start cutting out inspo pics). Seeing your vision will keep you motivated!

Step 2: Shift Your Mindset 🧠✨

Decluttering isn’t just about tossing things in a trash bag. It’s about changing how you think about your space and your belongings.

🔹 Progress over perfection: You don’t have to declutter everything in a day. Small, consistent steps will make the biggest impact!

🔹 Let go of guilt: Holding onto something because it was expensive or a gift? If it no longer serves you, it’s okay to let it go.

🔹 Less is more: When you free up space, you make room for what truly matters—whether that’s more breathing room, less stress, or a home you genuinely love.

Step 3: Prep Your Space 🏡

Decluttering is much easier when your home is already a little tidy. Take five minutes to go through your space and put misplaced items back where they belong. Trust me, it makes a difference!

💡 Pro Tip: Use storage solutions to help keep things in their place. Some of my favorites:

🔹 Bamboo Drawer Dividers – Perfect for organizing your kitchen, bathroom, or dresser drawers!

🔹 Collapsible Laundry Basket – A game changer for sorting laundry and decluttering clothes!

🔹 Other Storage & Organization Favorites – Because a clutter-free home starts with smart storage!

Step 4: Start Small with the 3-Bag Rule 🛍️

Overwhelmed by where to begin? Start with just one drawer or shelf. And use my 3-Bag Rule to keep things simple:

🗑️ Trash: Anything broken, expired, or unusable.

🎁 Donate: Items in good condition that no longer serve you.

♻️ Recycle: Papers, plastics, and items that can be repurposed.

Step 5: The 5 Essential Questions to Declutter with Confidence

When deciding whether to keep or toss something, ask yourself:

1️⃣ Do I use this regularly?

2️⃣ Does it bring me joy or serve a purpose?

3️⃣ Would I buy this again today?

4️⃣ Do I have duplicates of this item?

5️⃣ Am I only keeping it out of guilt or obligation?
