Keeping it Stainless: Tips for Cleaning & Maintaining Stainless Steel🌟

Stainless steel is very common in kitchen households today. But they can take a little extra work and patience to keep clean and maintained so they look beautiful and preserve their appearance!🤩

This week, we're giving you all the best tips and DIY tricks for maintaining those stainless steel appliances so you can keep your kitchen looking beautiful, and shiny for years to come!!✨

Regular Cleaning

Wipe down your stainless steels regularly to remove dust, debris and fingerprints!! Regularly wiping it down prevents built up grime that can damage the appliance. It also aids in preventing stuck on crud that can be more challenging to remove if you wait too long!😅

Use Mild Soap

Always use a mild soap when cleaning your stainless steel. Never use harsh or abrasive cleaners with chlorine or chloride as it can damage the stainless steel easily! Glass cleaner with ammonia is also damaging as it breaks through the protective layer on stainless steel. Instead, opt for some warm, filtered water mixed with a mild dish soap mix like Dawn Platinum! 🫧

Directional Wiping

Remember to always wipe stainless steel in the direction of the grain to avoid scratching it. Most stainless steel appliances have a visible grain pattern that you can follow to ensure you are not damaging it!😌

Rinse and Dry

After cleaning, always rinse the surface thoroughly to remove all the soap residue. Then, dry the surface well to avoid any water spots and/or mineral deposits. This is especially necessary for pots and pans! Make sure they are well dried and clean before putting them back into the cabinet to ensure they stay looking polished and clean!!🫕

Avoid Abrasive Tools

Never use steel wool, abrasive pads, or harsh scrub brushes on your stainless steel! Even for tough stains or stuck on grime, try to avoid using these abrasive tools so they won't damage your stainless steel. Opt for a gentler cloth like microfiber towels or these sponges (using only the soft side!). Or any other brush that are specifically made for stainless steel!🧽

Removing Tough Stains

So how do you get out those tough stains without tough tools?? Try using white vinegar on a soft cloth to scrub and loosen water spots or tough stains. It should scrub right off and then you can rinse and dry! Another DIY solution for stubborn stains and grime, is to make a paste mixing equal parts dish soap and baking soda. Apply it to the affected area and let sit for awhile, then gently scrub with your soft cloth! 🤩

Polish!

To keep your stainless steel looking brand new, remember to polish it often! (But don't forget to clean before you polish!!!) You can use a small amount of olive oil or mineral oil on a clean cloth to polish and restore shine. Or you can purchase a specific stainless steel polisher! My personal favorite is Weimann Stainless Steel Cleaner and Polish!✨

Read Manufacturers Labels

Above are basic tips and tricks for maintaining your stainless steel appliances and cookware, however, always read the manufacturers label for specific cleaning and maintenance recommendations to ensure the utmost care!!🥰
